In an interview in 1999, Donald Trump said this when asked if he supports the Second Amendment: “Well, I think you have to have the right to have a gun. Now, I hate the concept of guns, I’m not in favor of it, except for one thing: the bad guys are going to have them…. So now the good folks are sitting out there with no protection, and the bad guys have the guns. I don’t like that. So I am in favor of the ability to have a gun. ” 

The part in bold was used in an anti-Trump TV ad, distorting the meaning of Trump’s answer.
