Even after contracting the coronavirus and being hospitalized, President Donald Trump has continued to downplay the risks of COVID-19 and exaggerate the progress the U.S. has made in fighting the pandemic.
In a series of comments focused on the surging number of COVID-19 cases elsewhere in the world, President Trump left the misleading impression that the U.S. is doing better than several countries seeing recent upticks in cases.
The CDC reported that through May 30, 14% of confirmed coronavirus cases led to hospitalizations — including 2% in intensive care units. But President Trump falsely claimed “99%” of cases “are totally harmless.”
